EFFORT TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATIONS

Nazis Preparing For New Moves

(Rec. 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 8. The National Broadcasting Company’s Ankara correspondent reports that the Germans are making a drastic effort to improve communications and transport throughout the Balkans and are employing thousands of war prisohers and labour conscripts.

The Turkish military authorities believe that these and other preparations will occupy the months before the Germans are ready for an attack on south-eastern Europe. The Ankara correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says Turkish fishermen reported the arrival of a large convoy of small steamers and boats at the Italian occupied island of Samos. Other reports state that at least one division of Italians, including some armoured units, is stationed on Samos.
