CURTAIN MAY RISE ON EGYPT
(Rec. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 7. A correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” somewhere in the Western Mediterranean says the general tone of the press of France and Spain, also of the French and Spanish newspapers in North Africa, suggests that the slow .progress of the Germans in Russia is causing Axis sources to try to switch public attention elsewhere. A Spanish paper in Morocco published a long article from Berlin in which it was stated “when the dropscene falls on the snowy Russian scenery the curtain will rise on the Egyptian theatre.” An immense and well-equipped Imperial Army and Air Force in the Near East are impatiently awaiting the reopening of this campaign, says the “Daily Mall,” which adds that this time the imperial Forces should capture and hold the North African coast, menacing Italy with invasion and confrontnig Vichy with the same determination as was shown in Syria, that is, if the Germans are allowed to Use TUnls and Morocco.
