N.Z. BASE IN EGYPT

Enormously Strong (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 8. Major-General Puttick, who returned to Wellington to-day, said in an interview that although he was hot sufficiently familiar with the New Zealand system of home defence at the moment to make much comment, it seemed to him that the longer and more complete the training given to the Territorial Force the better prelude it would make to entry into the Expeditionary Force. The New Zealand base in the Middle East was enormously strong and stronger than ever it had been in the past. The men in Egypt were well looked after. Major-General Puttick spoke enthusiastically of the hospitality and sterling qualities of the Greek people who worked indefatlgably to assist the New Zealand and British troops.
