Sequel To Accident At

Grant’s Hill

As the result of extensive electrical burns suffered when he came into contact with an UO.OOO volt electric switch at Grant’s Hill sub-station of the Public Works Department on July 26, Reginald Coales, a married man, aged 50, died in the Tlmaru Public Hospital yesterday.

The accident Occurred while Mr Coales was working in the steel structure at the sub-station. The Grant’s Hill sub-station on the outskirts of Tlmaru, controls the whole of the area covered by the South Canterbury Electric Power Board as well as the Timaru borough area. As a result of the accident Timaru, Waimate, Temuka, Geraldine and the area controlled by the Electric Power Board were deprived of power from 4 p.m. until 4.35 p.m., Mr Coales’s contact with the switch having put the lines out of action.
