Advice has been received by Mrs King, 99 KingStreet, that her son, Pilot Officer R. W. King, has arrived in England.
Sir Hatty Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, will visit Christchurch from September 20 to September 23. The High Commissioner proposes to see something of the war work being done in Christchurch, including that of the patriotic societies providing comforts for the armed forces.
A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr A. Doig, whose death occurred at Ashburton on Saturday, was passed at a meeting of the South Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. The secretary was also instructed to forward a letter of condolerice to the Ashburton Rugby Union, of which Mr DOig was a vice-president. Mr Doig was the manager of the Ashburton representative team which visited Timaru recently.
