Members expressed keen satisfaction with the results and looked forward to the day when there would be 100 per cent of the people with accounts. A letter from Headquarters said C.’.t 6d would provide 3 rounds of small arms ammunition, 6/- would provide a Mills bomb, £2/1/- would provide a three-inch mortar bomb, £3O would equip a soldier with ■ a rifle, bayonet, web-equipment. uniform, clothing, ground sheet and blanket, £l2O would provide a three-inch trench mortar. £5OO would buy an ambulance, £l6OO would provide a Tiger Moth training aircraft (assembled in New Zealand), and £2OOO would pay for a universal gun carrier. DOMESTIC HOSTEL ESTABLISHMENT AT GERALDINE SUGGESTED A talk on the Stratheona Domestic Training Hostel and the possibility of providing domestic training hostels at Geraldine, Mayfield and Waimate will be given by Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., at a meeting of women’s organisations convened by the Mayor (Mr D. C. McKechnie) in conjunction with the chairman of the Geraldine County Council (Mr K. Mackenzie). Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone and Mrs J. A. McLeod, chairwoman and secretary respectively of the Stratheona Board Will also be present. The meeting has been called with a view to making available as much information as possible about domestic training hostels, one of which Mr Burnett suggests should be established at Geraldine, said Mr McKechnle yesterday. He hoped that a committee would be set up to make a full Investigation and to report on the possible establishment of such an institution at Geraldine. * WORK ON LEPER ISLANDS Two nursing Sisters from Makogai Leper Hospital, Sisters M. Theodore and M. Tagophile, visited Geraldine yesterday in company with Mrs P. J. Twomey (wife of the secretary of the Leper Trust Board) and Miss M. Purse (secretary of the Catholic Women’s League). There was a good attendance in the Catholic Presbytery including representatives of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union.

A welcome was extended by the Rev. Father M. J. Fogarty. Interesting lantern slides depicting the valuable work being carried out in the Leper Islands were shown. Many of the slides showed the patients’ appreciation of the gifts received from various organisations in New Zealand and the need for this assistance to continue to make the life of the patients as happy as possible.
