WOMEN’S DIVISION

PLEASANT POINT BRANCH

Mrs Jackson presided over a fairly good attendance of members at the August meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the Women’s Division.

A parcel was packed and sent away to one of the local men serving overseas.

Mrs Skinner gave a talk on the Country Women’s School held in Timaru and demonstrated some of the useful sewing hints given at the renovation class.

The competitions resulted as follows: Marmalade, Mrs Lyon 1, Mrs McSweeney 2; bowl of flowers, Mrs Cunningham 1 and 2.

Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Cunningham and McSweeney. As a result of a dance held last week, the Division will be be able to hand over a considerable sum for patriotic purposes. HAZELBURN BRANCH There was a good attendance at the September meeting of the Hazelburn Women’s Division. Mrs Glennie presided. Miss Henrickson was welcomed as a new member. Mrs Glennie read correspondence on the Dominion conference. It was decided to hold a bring and buy at the next meeting for the Leper Appeal. A letter was read from Mrs McLeod and members were asked to bring donations of groceries for Stratheona Home Training Hostel. Christmas parcels were sent to six local men serving overseas. The prizes for most points gained in the competitions held during the year were presented by Mrs Glennie, the winners being Mrs Mowat 1, Miss M. Glennie 2, Mrs H. Blackler 3. Mrs O. Connell was hostess for the afternoon. The day’s competitions resulted as follows: Four best hen eggs, Mrs Mowat 1, Mrs Wolff 2, Mrs O. Connell 3; best bloom. Miss H. Mowat 1, Mrs Glennie 2. Miss E Glennie 3; apron from scraps, Mrs Wolff 1, Miss E. Glennie 2. MA WARO BRANCH Mrs Connelly presided over the Augbst meeting of the Ma Waro branch of the W.D.F.U., and reported that the winter series of card parties had been successful, with one more yet to be held. Arrangements for the school children’s garden party at Mona Vale were completed. Donations were made to “Stratheona” and the Leper Fund. Members were invited to various lectures by Miss Robbins at the Albury W D.F.U. in September. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Bloom, single, Miss D. Connelly 1, Mrs Struthers 2, Mrs Connelly 3. Bloom, spike, Mrs Connelly 1, Mrs Leslie 2, Mrs Davison 3. Refugee knitting, Mrs Leslie 1, Miss McKerchar 2. Mrs Davison 3. Mrs Knubley was hostess, and her telegram competition was won by Mrs Leslie. Miss Stevenson and Miss de Lambert kindly acted as judges.
