NEW CORPORATION
Absorbing Dock Workers (Rec. 7.30 pm.) RUGBY, August 14. The absorption of dock workers whose regular companies have no need of their services will be the main responsibility of the new national dock labour corporation to be set up by the Government. The corporation will deal with matters of local policy and general administration regarding the requirements of the newest Essential Work (dock labour) Order just issued. Local works set up will co-operate with regional port directors and port emergency committees in providing labour for the quick turn round of ships. It is a condition of a dorker’s employment under the scheme that he not only report regularly as required, but that he be prepared to take any suitable work offered. The cost of all the schemes will be met from a national management fund to be maintained by the corporation. The preparation of schemes covering the Port of London and the principal ports of the Bristol Channel, the Firth of Forth, the Humbertees and the Tyne are under way and work will commence immediately the corporation is formed.
