CHEESE PRODUCTION
Statement Denied
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 15. In an interview with reference to the Press Association telegram from New Plymouth published to-day. in which Mr A. Hall, chairman of the Mangarei Co-operative Dairy Company, was said to have stated that he reecived from the Director of the Dairy Division (Mr W. M. S. Singleton) information to the effect that a survey had disclosed that 160.000 tons of cheese required by Great Britain from New Zealand is assured, the Director of the Daily Division states that the published statement is incorrect and misleading. “I have never made a statement of this nature.” he said. In fact, I have stressed and still stress the necessity for all producers and cheese factories to exert themselves to the limit in order that we might approximate such an output; Under normal climatic conditions certain cheese factories, which are now being reorganised, cannot get in a position either to make cheese throughout next win.er or to open up early in the spr-ng of 1942 It is reasonable td expect that the objective of 169.000 tons should be reached in 1942-43.
