Women Selected For Staff Two From Timaru (PA.) WELLINGTON. August 15. Thirty young unmarried women are to proceed to the Middie East to help in the New Zealand Forces Club and other similar institutions established for the welfare of Dominion troops, according to a statement made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) this morning. Mr Jones said that recently a request was received from Major-General Freyberg asking for arrangements to be made for the young women to proceed to the Middle East. As a result a committee of Women's War Service Auxiliary had been set up to make recommendations and the selections were made from members of the various branches of that' organisation and affiliated .bodies. “The women who hae been selected have all been medically examined and passed fit and steps are now being taken to have them vaccinated, inoculated. and fitted with uniforms.” added Mr Jones. “A total of 30 women are required, and they have been drawn from all parts of the Dominion, from as far north as Dargaville ahd as far south as Invercargill.” Names of Selections The Minister said that he had been assured that they were excellent types and should render good service in the Middle East. , Their names are:— Misses M. M. Latham (Wanganui); O. Barton, P. Sherriff (Marton); M. Cooksley, M. Gulliver (Palmerston North); P. M. Thomas (Masterton); Y. Hunter (Hutt Valley); K. Bourke. G Clarke. J. Gilmer, J. Inglis. A. Neely, M. Webster (Wellington); E. Murray. M. R. Webley (Christchurch); C. Johnson. A. Holdgate (Timaru); J. Burnside. G. Chisholm (Dunedin); J. Gilmour (Invercargill).
