Six Inches At Tekapo

The rain of the past few days in toe Fairlie district during Thursday night turned to snow. The hills received a fearly heavy coating and the lower land from Clayton to Kimball had a fall of from two to three inches. In the back country the fall was heavier, with six inches at Lake Tekapo. Fairlie escaped with a light dusting. DOMAIN BOARD The chairman <Mr J. Braddick) at a meeting of the Fairlie Domain Board, referring to skating on the pond.* said that this winter skating had taken place and he thought tfiat as thes pond was so deep it was dangerous for children. He suggested that befdre next winter the pond be cleaned out and levelled, and only a little water let in so that skating could be done with safety. Hie chairman was given power to dispose of the willow wood. It was decided that the broken post in the gate of the motor paddock be replaced. It was agreed that tenders be called for a lease of the Board land for a term of three years. DRAMA FESTIVAL The Mackenzie Literary and Dramatic Society have prepared three plays which will be staged shortly. The proceeds are to be given to the patriotic funds. The play sare “Sing a Song a Sixpence,” "It’s Autumn Now” and "Snakes and Ladders.” A suitable programme of musical items has been arranged. The occasion is the annual festival of the local society, and no effort has been spared to bring the plays to a high standard. Members have shown great keenness, and the practices during the winter wonths have been well attended.
