OCEAN PATROL
Catalinas Cover Vast Area (Rec. 7.47 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 13. American built Catalina flying-boats which have been arriving across the Pacific from the United States :n a steady flow in the last few months now patrol the hugh ocean area from the China Seas to near Africa and from the Arabian Sea to well south of the Equator, states an Air Ministry bulletin. Operating from bases in Malaya and Ceylon these aircraft have since their arrival in the Far East flown on patrol a distance equivalent to six times round the world. Their task is to keep ceaseless watch for enemy raiders and submarines and there is already evidence of their efficiency in this theatre of war. Catalinas may well be called on to escort convoys, act as long range
bombers, undertake routine patrol and do anti-submarine reconnaissance.
