British Relations With United States WASHINGTON. August 12. Tiie United States Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) at a press conference was questioned about a state: "i: made to the press by Mr G. F. Shafer, of the U.S. House, who alleged that Lord Beaverbrook had declared recently that unless the United States got troops into the war within a month Britain would sue for peace. Mr Shafer declined to disclose the source of this allegation or to elaborate on it. Mr Hull said that he did not feel called upon to speak for Lord Beaverbrook, especially on something which was a patent absurdity.
