Parachutists Land Near Calais Thirty Nazi ’Planes Destroyed By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 18. Landing in occupied France during an intense night raid by the Royal Air Force, British parachutists destroyed 30 grounded planes and the control tower at a German aerodrome. They then escaped in torpedo-boats with 40 Germans as prisoners. This daring exploit is reported in an Overseas News Agency message from Zurich. The parachutists landed at Bercksurmer, near Calais, and contacted British agents and French sympathisers. The guards at the aerodrome were overwhelmed by the parachutists, wro captured German pilots, and destroyed planes and the control tower with hand grenades. Then they rushed to the coast with their prisoners to waiting torpedoboats.
