The second wartime Derby resulted: Owen Tudor 1 Morogoro 2 Firozedin 3 Won by a length and a half, two lengths between second and third Time—2min 32sec. Interest in the Derby, run at Newmarket instead of Epsom, was apparently as world-wide as ever. Transport difficulties limited the crowd which was not more than 5000, compared with the peace-time 500.000. There were 20 starters, with Suncastle most popular, and Fairy Prince the best outsider. The owner of Fairy Prince is a prisoner of war in Germany
