RICCARTON NOTES
CONDITIONS IMPROVING (Special) CHRISTCHURCH. June 19. There was an improvement in the conditions for the-,,work/at Riccarton this morning but the weather was far from good.. After rain..during the night -there were a few light showers of rain, with an occasional suggestion of snow. The course was open but the work on the flat was restricted to useful pacing on the sand track, which was sloppy. . Provided . the. .conditions are favourable, a'grass track will be available to-morrow morning tor horses who are engaged at Ashburton. The' Safidwicttpian (w. ‘ Nelson) are Recollection (A.' Keachi Save a very attractive exhibition .while jumping the three brush fences In the, straight. Waka (M. Billington) followed them but his display was not so good. Mungatoon (H. W. Hibberd) and Night Di-ess (A. Leach) went over four hurdles, travelling with the speed on all the way and jumping in smart style. Mungatoon was a length in front, when they cleared the final obstacle. Red Dragon (W. Nelson) set off some distance behind the other pair but did not impress, as he lost a lot of ground, while he ran about at some of the obstacles .though he jumped the last one very well. Parchment Is not a certain starter in the Mayfield Hack Handicap at Ashburton but C. Fox will ride him if he runs. Fox may also be on Cymric. , , , . „ Sir Frederick was taken to Greymouth last week but he was not started, as he was lame. He has not done much work since then and he is a doubtful starter in the hurdle race at Ashburton. If he misses his engagement, I. Walther will ride Donadea. W. Nelson will have the mount on The Sandwichman in the steeplechase at Ashburton, while R. Register will have the ride on Polity in the hurdles if he is started. Waka bruised a foot about a week ago but he has yielded to treatment fairly well. A. S. Ellis hones to start him in the steeplechase on Saturday. Camphor gave one of her joints a knock a few days ago and the leg filled slightly. She Is on the Improve but F A. Roberts is not certain that she will be able to race at Ashburton, where she was due for her first run in he colours of her new’ owners, Messrs -Taylor Brothers, of Christchurch.
