WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
LYALLDALE Mrs R. Thompson presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Lyalldale Women's Institute. Mrs R. Gray was elected vice-presi-dent in place of Mrs J. Daly. Mrs Quinn was elected as the second representative to the Red Cross Society. A report was received from Mrs Gray on the annual meeting of the Waimate Federation. Pillow slips were handed in as requested for the Bluecliffs Emergency Hospital. The “Donkey’s Spelling Bee” competition was won by Mrs Johnson. The month's competitions resulted as follows:—Premier bloom, Mrs Porter 1, Mrs Pye 2, Mrs Johnson 3; parsnips: Mrs Pye 1, Mrs Johnson 2; peggy squares: Mrs McKeown 1, Mrs Porter 2; wheatmeal scones: Mrs Midgley 1, Mrs Porter 2, Mrs Quinn 3. WOODBURY The monthly meeting of the Woodbury Women’s Institute was presided over by Miss Davies. Mrs Inglis, of Peel Forest, gave a talk on her experiences during the Great War as a worker in a Regimental barracks in England. The results of the competitions for the day, which were Peggy squares to be made into a quilt for the Lady Galway Guild, were: Mrs Nolan 1, Mrs Neutze 2; plain, Mrs Shaw 1, Miss Davis 2; specimen bloom: large, Mrs Neutze L Miss Davies 2; small, Mrs Bennett 1 and 2, Mrs Neutze 3cluster, Mrs Burnett 1 and 2, Mrs Sharpe 3.
