MAY LAST FOUR MORE YEARS

War Prediction By U.S. Minister LONDON, June 17. The United States Secretary of War (Mr H. L. Stimson) is of the opinion that the war will last another four years. Speaking before a committee of the House of Representatives in Washington, he reported on the St. Lawrence canal scheme and said that one of the advantages of the canal was to provide partial protection of the munitions route to Great Britain. The canal would take four years to build. “Probably the greatest difficulties and the heaviest ordeals are still before the Empire,” said the Prime Minister of South Africa (General Smuts) at Pretoria. "It is a terrible thing to say, but instead of it being near the end of the war italmost looks like the beginning. Mankind is always being tested and the present generation will have to decide whether it is worthy of freedom."
