NEW PUBLIC WORKS

Suggestion Almost A Crime i (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. "It is almost a crime to suggest anything in tl.e nature of new public works just now.” said the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong), amid laughter, when discussing the Redcliffs floods with the Sumner Borough Council this morning. Previously the Minister had said that the proposal to build a protective wall at Redcliffs would be a pretty big job. As things were at present even very Urgent works had to stand aside to allow the best possible war effort to be made. The Minister assured the Council that help was needed at Redcliffs as soon as possible.
