FIRE AT BLUFF

Three Shops Gutted

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, June 17. Three shops were gutted by fire at Bluff in the early hours of this morning. They were those of Mrs G. Edginton (boot retailer), Mrs L. Mortimer (cafe proprietress) and Miss L. Dawson (bookseller and stationer). The property was owned by the estate of the late Mr P. Georgeson.

The alarm was given from the watchhouse on the wharf at 12.20 a.m., when flames were seen shooting through the roof of the cafe. Although there was little wind the fire spread rapidly and enveloped the shops on either side before it could be suppressed.
