SATURDAY’S DRAW The draw for the seventh series of games in the Temuka and Districts Basketball Association’s competitions is as follows:—First grade—Temuka Y.W. v. Winchester at Temuka Domain. 3 p.m. (Mr Malcolmson); Clandeboye v. Pleasant Point at Clandeboye, 2.30 pan. (Mr R. Armstrong,. Second grade—St. Joseph's v. Temuka D.H.S. at St. Joseph’s Court, 2.15 p.m. (Miss B. Berry!; Winchester v. Temuka Y.W. at Winchester, 3 p.m. (Mr D. South). Third grade—Winchester v. Milford at Winchester. 2.15 pan. (Miss M. Dippie); Pleasant Point v. St. Joseph’s at Pleasant Point, 2.30 p.m. (Mr R. South). RANGITIRA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The meeting of the Rangitira Valley Women’s Instlute was held at the home of Mrs S. G. McCullough. Mrs Talbot presided over a good attendance. A motion of sympathy was passed to the O’Neil family In their bereavement, members standing in silence. Mrs Kennedy read an interesting article on “Mrs Sara Roosevelt, the President’s mother.’’ The roll calls were ’’My happiest household task,” and “My favourite breakfast dish,” and many useful ideas were exchanged. A group travel talk on a recent trip to Franz Josef Glacier was given by Mrs G. McCullough. Competition results were:—Large bloom. Mrs Hartnett 1, Mrs Kennedy 2; small bloom, Mrs Kennedy 1, Mrs McCullough 2; ginger sponge, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs H. Lloyd (equal) 1. A large box of toffee was collected to be sent to Burnham hospital, Mrs Geddis winning first place and Mrs Hartnett second. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames O’Neil and Talbot. ’ CLANDEBOYE W.D.F.U. Owing to inclement weather, there was a smaller attendance than usual at the monthly meeting of the Clandeboye W.D.F.U. presided over by Mrs Bolderston. Correspondence was received about the Country Women’s School to be held in Timaru. A talk on nursing was given by Miss W. Livesey. She was accorded a vote of thanks. The president thanked those people who had made the birthday party so successful. Mrs Mulligan was thanked for giving tins in which were packed the short-bread for troops overseas. A competition was won by Mrs Norton. Competitions resulted as follows: —Carrots, Mrs Adair 1 and 2, Mrs Woodley 3; pot of raspberry jam, Mrs Woodley 1; bloom. Mrs Adair 1, Mrs Livesey 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Livesey, Norton and Miss Hickey.
“Procter’s,” the Opticians, Christchurch, will be making their next professional visit to Temuka, on Tuesday, July 1, when their London trained staff may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can now be made by ringing the U.F.S.
