WOMEN’S DIVISION

ALBURY BRANCH Mrs O’Neill presided over a small attendance at the monthly meeting of the Albury Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, A motion of sympathy was passed with the friends and relatives of the late Mrs Major, members standing in silence. The programme for the next six months was made up and final arrangements were made for the packing of soldiers’ parcels. It was decided to include ginger nuts in the soldiers’ parcels instead of shortbread. Hie date fixed for packing the soldiers’ parcels was May 31. Compentitions for the month resulted as follows: Socks for soldiers, Mrs Simpson 1, Mrs Tinkler 2. Bottled fruit, Mrs Tinkler 1. Pear ginger, Mrs Tinkler 1, Miss O’Reilly 2. Bloom. Mrs Tinkler 1. Mrs Higgs 2. Plum pudding, Miss O’Reilly 1. Hostesses for the day were Mrs J. Higgs and Mrs R. Tinkler. KAKAHU BRANCH Mrs F. R. Chapman presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Kakahu Branch of the W.D.F.U. Arrangements were made to hold the men’s social and flag 500 evening next week. An invitation to attend its birthday party was received from the Clandeboye W.D.F.U. Miss Jjanita LeCren and Miss Chisholm were welcomed as junior members. Mrs Chapman gave a report on the annual meeting of the executive. Remits for the Dominion Conference were read and discussed. There was a good response to the appeal for clothing for refugees. It was decided to have a first aid talk at the next meeting. The competitions resulted as follows: Premier bloom. Class A, Miss N. Maxwell 1, Mrs Coales 2. Mrs Chapman 3. Class B, Mrs Smith KINGSDOWN BRANCH At the May meeting of the Klngsdown Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union, Mrs HaU presided over a small attendance of members. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Ivey and family was carried. The “Golden Thread” was given by Mrs S. Cantwell. A talk on her recent trip to the West Coast was given by Miss E. Rooney, wro which she was accorded a vote of thanks. The annual competitions resulted as follows: Aggregate, Miss O. Hampton 1, Miss E. Rooney 2. Gardening, Miss E. Rooney. The monthly competition resulted as follows: Autumn foliage, Miss E. Rooney 1, Miss O. Hampton 2, Mrs Hall 3.
