Hospital Board Money At 3.7 Per Cent An offer has been made to the South Canterbury Hospital Board to find the total amount of £6700 for the supplementary loan for the building of the Timaru Hospital kitchen block, reported the Finance Committee to a meeting of the Board yesterday. The offer is to provide the money on a table mortgage for 10 to 15 years at £3/14/-. per cent. The recommendation of the committee that the offer be accepted for a 15 year term and that the secretary be authorised to complete the negotiations was approved. “The hospital has again reached a »oaa, stretchers haying to be made reported the Medical Superintendent (Dr. J" O. McKenzie). “Accommodation for nurses is again a serious problem. The annexe has been arranged to accommodate 15 against 10 when it was opened. We have had assistance from trained nurses doing refresher courses, from the Red Cross and from St. John personnel.” In extending a Welcome to the new members, the chairman (Mr E. Macdonald) expressed a hope that their terin on the Board would be pleasant and that the Board would have the benefit of their co-operatioh. He s i he regretted losing the services. Of Mr W. H. House committee The House Committee reported that, letters had been received from the Director, Division of Hospitals, expressing, the opinion that it was undesirable that T.B. patients be accommodated !ri the medical wards or venahdahS and suggesting that the Medical Superintendent report on the matter. The Medical Superintendent submitted three proposals /.(a) Building a K.Sj annexe, (b) Acquiring a farm property and (c) Arranging huts in the Ttmatu Hospital grounds. The committee recommended that the report be referred to the Director with the request that Board members discuss the proposals with ,hlhi personally. The report was approved. The Social Service Committee report? ed that five new applications for assistance were granted during April, as compared with 11 in April, 1940. Fourteen (as compared With 17) applications for further assistance were received ahd 13 were granted. The total value of orders to 62 (49) cases for the whole district was £l6l/3/2, as against £163/2/-. The report was adopted.
