NAZI RAIDER SUNK

British Seamen Rescued

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 9. An Admiralty communique states that a German commerce raider was intercepted and sunk in the Indian Ocean by H.M.S. Cornwall (Commander P. C. W. Mannering). Some 27 British merchant seamen, who were held prisoner on the raider, were rescued. There were 53 survivors off the raider, and they were taken prisoner. H.M.S. Cornwall suffered only superficial damage, and her efflciencv was in no way impaired. She is a cruiser of 10,090 tons, and carries eight 8-lnch guns and three aircraft She has a complement of 679.
