Mr T. Shanahan, Inspector of Police for the New Plymouth district, left for the north yesterday after a short holiday in Timaru.
The position of foreman of the railway workshops at Addington, made vacant by the retirement on superannuation of Mr H. A. S. Martin, has been filled by the promotion of Mr L. McMillan, foreman of works at Greymouth. Mr McMillan's position will be filled by Mr L. N. Lower, assistant-foreman of works, Addington, and he will be replaced by the promotion of Mr C. A. Boss, bridge inspector at Wanganui. Messrs P. S. Smith, Greymouth, and H. J. D. Barnard, Addington, have been appointed bridge inspectors in the North Island, Mr Smith going to Ohakune and Mr Barnard to Wanganui.
Reference to the deaths of Mr T. H. Ivey and his daughter, was made at the meeting of the Committee of the Timaru A. and P. Association yesterday, when a motion of condolence was extended to the relatives. The president, Mr R. Maddren, said that Mr Ivey had been well and popularly known through his active participation as an exhibitor at A. and P. shows throughout the South Island, and there were many thousands who derived much pleasure in witnessing his exhibits. The absence of Mr Ivey from future shows would be severely felt by the Timaru and kindred associations.
