A I* ARD FROST The heaviest frost this year was recorded In Falrlle yesterday when 18! degrees were registered. “CHARITY BEGINS” On Monday night Fairlie residents are to have the opportunity of seeing the three-act comedy "Charity Begins,” which is to be staged in the Aorangi Hall after a successful season In South Canterbury and North Otago. This comedy, which is produced by Mrs W. G. Tweedy, has been well received everywhere and should prove to be the best entertainment of its kind seen in Fairlie for many years. All the proceeds are to go to the Mackenzie quota of the Patriotic Million Pound Appeal. It is expected that the hall will be packed. "THE GREAT VICTOR HERBERT” A cast headed by such celebrities as Allan Jones, Mary Martin and Walter Connolly in a rousing romance of the show world will be seen at the De Luxe Theatre, Fairlie, to-night at 8 o’clock in the new musical drama. "The Great Victor Herbert.” Not so much a biography of Victor Herbert’s as a drama of the composer’s influence over the glamorous show world of his day, the film tells of the romance of a stage-struck girl and the matinee idol of the day, who meet in Herbert’s gay world, find fame In starring in his operettas and happiness in their friendship with the great man.
