WOMEN’S GOLF
South Canterbury Championship Semi-finals Played Although the links were heavy after the frost yesterday morning conditions improved later and the Highfleld links were ideal for play on the second day of the South Canterbury women’s open patriotic championship which reached the semi-final stages in the afternoon. In one of the semi-finals Miss Jean Horwell, the holder pf the title, played her usual sound game, defeating Mrs N. S. Hawkes, 6 and 4. Miss Horwell returned a card of 76, two under bogey in the morning round. The second seml-flnalists, Miss B. Morrow, the Mid-Canterbury champion, and Mrs W. A. Scott, had a real battle. They played steady golf all through with good scores, the game going to the nineteenth. Here Mrs Scott topped her tee shot. Miss Morrow hit a good ball up the centre, but it took Mrs Scott three to reach the green. The final between the South Canterbury and Mid-Canterbury champions, which will commence at 9 o’clock this morning, should provide an interesting match. In the final of the Highfleld trophy Mrs H.
