RANGITATA

The twelfth birthday party of the Rangitata Women’s Institute took the form of a social and dance in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. A one-act play was presented by members. Mr Donald Brodie sang several songs, the accompanist being Mr C. Davies, of Geraldine. Members of visiting Institutes and Divisions performed the ceremony of lighting the candles and cutting the birthday cake. Mrs Harvey a member of the District Federation executive, presented the prizes won throughout the year as follows: Cup for most points, Miss Mavis Edgar; runner-up, Miss B. Wright, and third Miss H. C. Chalmers; cup for most points in flowers, Mrs Edgar; runnerup Miss Fleming and third Mrs Ruddenklau. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Myrtle Kelland and Mr P. Nevin At the monthly meeting Mrs Hill presided over a good attendance of members. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr Hearn was carried in silence. An invitation to the Arundel Women’s Institute birthday party was received Competitions resulted as follows: Rich fruit cake, Mrs Marshall 1, Mrs Ruddenklau 2 Mrs Wood 3; best covered coat hanger, Mrs Fleming 1. Mrs Ruddenklau 2, Mrs Wood 3; single bloom, Miss A. Northam; cluster bloom, Mrs Ruddenklau. _
