The links are in excellent order and should the weather be favourable some good cards are expected. Outside support has been gratifying and several players from Oamaru, Ashburton and South Canterbury clubs will take part. It is expected that five teams will play in the annual competition for the Kerr Cup which is associated with the tournament. The excellent conditions at Hlghfieid this season have been reflected in the consistently good scoring since the season commenced. Last week four pairs finished five up in a fourball bogey—exceptional scoring. The handicapper has been busy each week and reductions should continue. A start has been made with the singles knockout at Hlghfieid and the first round should be completed this week-end. Entries close shortly for the fourball knockout. The membership at Hlghfieid has been affected by the war out several new members have joined and the playing strength Is good. The committee has waived the entrance fee for the duration. The draw has been made for the men’s singles and fourball knockout competitions at Gleniti which will start now. Entries for the mixed foursome knockout competition at Gleniti close this week-end. The Gleniti committee has amended local rule No. 1 (out of bounds). In the past, a player who played a ball over any of the fences, merely lost distance, but under the new rule, the penalty will be loss of stroke and distance. The fence at Brevity (8 and 18) will be removed. The new rule becomes effective only after the fence at Brevity has been removed.
