Gold Salute easily won the King’s Plate, Queensland’s principal weight-for-age race, In the smart time of 2.31. Nominations for seats on the Geraldine Racing Club’s committee will be received until 5 p.m. on Monday next. Nominations for the Ashburton Trotting Club's winter fixture, and final forfeits for the Sapling Stakes, are due to-night at 8. When Amigo won the Besloy Handicap (li miles) at Waverley, he was making his second appearance for the afternoon. Previously he had finished third to Indorsement and Black Robe in the Walroa Handicap. For a long period the Forbury Park Club raced on Thursdays and Saturdays. Last season & postponement caused by rain compelled it to hold a meeting on Saturday and Monday, and apparently this had satisfactory results, as tito arrangement has been continued. The American pacer Starwyn, who was brought to New Zealand by Mr G. J. Barton and re-exported to Australia, won the championship for pacing stallions at the Sydney Show. At Harold Park he was driven an exhibition half-mile in 1.34. Donegal, who had not had a race for almost a year, gave promise for his winter campaign, which includes the Great Northern Hurdles, by coming with a fine finishing run in the Onewhero Hurdles at Pukekohe to snatch victory by a nose from the unlucky gelding Night Hawk. Hornpipe (Captain Bunsby-Star Dancer), who won the Waverley Steeplechase from Kaiwaka, Is 10 years old. This was his first appearance as a ’chaser, but he had had some experience over hurdles. Hornpipe graduated in the hunting field, but is now trained by L. Knapp. More than 40 entries have been received for each of the hack sprints at the South Canterbury meeting. The safety number is 24, so that there is no reason to fear that a division will be required, A large number of the entrants are maidens, probably nominated in the hope of developing winning form prior to the meeting.

The horses to be offered at the Gladstone Park dispersal sale include the imported stallion Battle Song; and Molten, Guardianelle, Satisfy, Battleflag, Monoxide, Paper Rose, Receipt, Charlotte Corday, Palestrina, Vinnacter, Knocklynn; the stallion Stolen March; - and three unnamed fillies. Man’s Pal, who is leased to Southland breeders, will not be submitted. Twenty-four horses have been entered for hurdle races at Washdyke next week, and the field promises to be much stronger than any seen this season except at the Grand National meeting. There-will not be twenty-odd starters, as there is a limited number of riders available, and on the’ first day seven horses have been nominated for both the hurdles and the Gloucester Cup, but there will be as many runners ag are desirable.

Poxbridge, whose stock had won £20,820 to April 21, had a long lead from Beau Pere £15,950 and Hunting Song £15,463/10/0 in the winning sires’ list. Foxbrjdge’s progeny had won 68 races and been placed in 122 others. His best representatives had been Lou Rosa £2725, and Duvach £1777/10/0.. Beau Pere, who is now in Australia, had no two-year-old winners to boost his total this season. Hunting Song has been dead for some years.

At the Royal Sydney Show on Easter Saturday, Lord Daley and White Globe made attacks on the Australian record for trotters over li miles, the record being Wallagolong’s 3.18 1-5. (A month earlier the two had raced against the mile record, Lord Daley succeeding with 23, and White Globe immediately reducing this to 2.8). Lord Daley cut Wallagolong’s figures to 3.17 1-5, but again held the honour only temporarily, as White Globe stepped 3.16 1-5. Both horses raced from a flying start, Lord Daley going alone and White Globe with a pacemaker. In New Zealand, Worthy Queen has a record of 3.14 1-5 from a standing start under race conditions. •,a • •

Kindergarten is to go to Australia in July, ana presumably will not be entered for the New Zealand Cup. As Beau Vite will not be here, it. is certain that Kindergarten would receive the maximum (9.6) if nominated. Nonette was given 9.9' in the Cup when a four-year-old, but in those days there was no limit, and he had earned it. As a three-year-old he. carried Bst and ran second to a good four-year-old St. Michael (7st 41b) in the Auckland Cup. Next day he won the Summer Cup with 9st and on the third day, carrying 9st 41b, was successful in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, one and a-half miles. On the fourth day he was again produced, this time with the three-year-old steadier of 9st 101 b, and went down narrowly to St. Michael (9.5) in the Grandstand Handicap, one and aquarter miles. These performances on four successive days stamped him as a great colt. In the autumn he was taken to Wanganui for the Cup, which he won with 8.11 over the mile and three-quarters. Then he won the A.R.C. Easter with 9.11, but, given 10.6 in the Auckland Autumn Handicap, one mile and a-half, he ran unplaced when the winner was receiving no less than 4st. «

An Increase of £17,821 was recorded on the totallsator at the 11 race meetings (gallops) in Southland during the 1940-41 season. The eight Southland racing clubs gave a total of £18,968/10/in stages, and the money was distributed among 82 owners. The principal stake winners on the Southland circuit were Messrs J. S. and W. E. Hazlett, whose horses won £1792. Next on the list is Mr W. Swale, for whom Royal Lancer gained most of the £1375 won by his horses. Messrs P. and R. Bute], of ArroWtoWn, were next with £ll6O, Aravane and Araboa being their main stake-earners. Other owners who won more than £5OO were: Messrs F. W. Ellis (£lllOl. J. E. Rogers (£822), J. Morrison (£775), P. J. Bovle (£720) G. Murdoch (£678), E. C. Govan (£560).
