CHRISTCHURCH, May 7. At Addington to-day most sections were over-supplied and there was a moderate easing in prices for fat sheep and a sharp one for fat cattle. Store Sheep: About 4500 head met with a ready sale for best lambs (up to 17/3) for wethers, and also for young ewes. Old ewes, particularly coarse wools, were down by 2/- a head. Best Romney two-tooths made to 25/9, and sound-mouthed to 15/6. Fat Sheep: About 8500 were penned, including numerous southern ewes. Medium weight prime ewes and wethers and light ewes showed little change in values, but both heavy wethers and heavy ewes were dqwn, the former by up to 2/6 a head, while light plain wethers also were easier. Fat Lambs: The entry of 1100 was largely taken by the export trade at the recent slight advance in schedule rates. Fat Cattle: The entry of 674 glutted the market. Heavy Steers were down by 20/- to 30/- a head, and all other classes by about 20/-. The market has been easing for some weeks under the pressure of large entries, and to-day best beef was down to about 34/- to 36/- per 1001 b. from 32/- to 33/6 per 1001 b for medium, with rough down to 24/- per 1001 b. Very few steers to-day exceeded £l5, prime ranging from £l3 to £l4/10/-, and medium £ll to £l3. An army of cull cows sold down to £3/10/- a head. * Fat Pigs: Porkers eased by about 4/a head and baconers were a shade easier. Porkers made £l/14/6 to £2/19/6 (average price per lb Sid to 7id)> and baconers £2/17/6 to £4/16/6 (average price per lb 6id to 6ld). BURNSIDE SALE (P.A.) DUNEDIN, May 7. A yarding of 295 fat cattle was penned at Burnside to-day. Prime quality cattle were 10/- to 15/- a head better than last week’s rates. Prime steers made £l3/2/6 to £l7/7/6, medium £lO/17/6 to £l2/2/6, light from £B/17/6, prime cows and heifers £B/7/6 to £l2/17/6, medium £6/7/6 to £7/17/6, light from £4/12/6 to £5/12/6. A yarding of 2470 fat sheep was penned. Prime wethers were 1/- a head dearer and light ewes 1/- to 1/6 a head better than last week. Prime wethers made 24/- to 31/3, others 15/to 19/6, extra prime 13/9 to 18/3, others 8/3 to 11/9. Nearly 1270 fat lambs were penned and sold at 20/- to 33/6 There was a small entry of fat pigs and these met With keen competition, prices all round showing a slight advance.
