Charitable Institutions ALLOCATION OF £10,975 FROM ART UNIONS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 12. Grants amounting to £10,975 will be made by the Government as Christmas donations toward the funds of a number of charitable and philanthropic institutions in New Zealand. The money comes from the surplus profits of the art unions held periodically throughout the year. There are two large allocations of £lOOO each, these being to the Crippled Children’s Society and the Commandery in New Zealand of the Order of St. John for branches and subsidiary organisations for relief purposes. There Is a grant of £5OO to the Wellington District Free Ambulance and grants of £3OO to the Superior Council of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Joseph’s Home (Auckland), the Smith Family (Wellington) and the Homes of Compassion at Island Bay and Silverstream. There will be special relief for old pensioners and others at Christchurch and Dunedin. Substantial gifts are made to the Society for tne Protection of Women and Children at the four main centres, various homes and orphanages, hospitals and institutions.
