SMALLER ENTRIES AND LOWER PRICES By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. Though there were reduced entries in most sections at the Addington market to-day, values were easier. Fat cattle sold unevenly, being on an average cheaper by 15/- a head. Fat wethers were in over-supply as a result of a shipment of more than 900 from the Chatham Islands. These depressed the market by 2/6 a head. Ewes sold with little change. Store sheep, mostly wethers, sold briskly. Store Sheep There was an entry of 1500 head, and apart from Chatham Island sheep the quality was not good. Chatham wethers, four and six-tooth Romneys, early shorn and of big frame, sold up to 24/9. Chatham sound-mouth ewes sold at 22/-, fine-woolled two-tooths at 24/9 and others at 22/9. A line of 113 shorn ewes and lambs made 14/10. Fat Lambs The entry of 400 sold at 9d per lb, or 3/- a-head dearer at the outset, but eased later by Id per lb and over. Fat Sheep In the entry of 4000 a big proportion was butchers’ wethers. Best Chatham wethers sold at 24/-to 39/-, lighter 25/to 28/-; good ewes 33/- to 36/6, tops 39/4, medium 26/- to 30/-, and ordinary and light down to 25/-. Fat Cattle There was a yarding of 560 compared with 482 last week. Good medium steers and best heifers showed a minor easing but unfinished stock were down by up to £l. Good beef sold at 39/to 42/- per 1001 b. but a lot at less than 40/-. Prime steers made to £24. heavy £l5 to £lB. medium £l2 to £l4. light from £9. good heifers £ll to £l3, tops at £l6, light from £7, best cows £ll to £l3 ordinary £9 to £lO, unfinished from £7/10/-. Pigs The porker entry was the largest of the season. Values were firm. Baconers were in full supply and values improved by up to 3/- a head. Light porkers made 51/- to 58/6, medium 59'6 to 64/6, best to 69/6; average price 8d to 9d per lb. Light baconers 70/6 to 77 6. medium 80/- to 85/-, heavy 87/6 tn "5 '6 for tops. An average of 61d to vid per lb.
