JAPANESE CLAIM OF SUICIDE
Death Of British Journalist United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 16, 6.30 p.m.) TOKIO, August 15. The Ministry of Justice Issued a statement that investigation had established that Reuter’s correspondent, Mr Geoffrey Cox. committed suicide. It said that his shoes left marks on the window sill and the body was six metres from the building. From this it is deduced that he climbed to the window and deliberately jumped. An examination of documents in Mr Cox’s possession disclosed evidence supporting suspicions of espionage, since they included records of the number of forces dispatched to China, movements of Japanese vessels, the numerical strength of Japanese troops in Manchukuo and records on the number of dead and wounded in SinoJapanese hostilities.
