“Neutral Port”

Wm Fyffe reported for his role in "Neutral Port” wearing three weeks’ growth of beard and a happy smile. Having to sprout whiskers for the part will save him 35 razor blades and a stick of shaving soap! Fyffe appears as an intrepid merchant mariner in the piesent war. The leading lady is the new Gainsborough discovery, Phyllis Calvert. One difficulty, in view of Hitler's habit of suddenly “protecting” neutrals, was the locale of the neutral port of the title. It was solved by creating a fictional country where the natives speak Esperanto.
