Mr V. Parsons, headmaster of the Waipukurau District High School, has received notice of his transfer to the Wairoa District High School.

At the meeting of the Timaru Borough Council last night, Mr J. Digby, formerly of the Borough Omnibus Department, who has been an acting traffic inspector for the past three months, was appointed permanently to the staff of the Traffic Department.

The death occurred suddenly last night of Mr J. M. Fraser, of Dunedin, well-known for his association with the produce trade and also for his keen interest in various branches of sport. He was 58 years of age. He was president of the New Zealand Cricket Council from 1933 to 1935 and had long been an administrator of the game in Otago.

Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. Irving, who contested the Masterton seat at the last electon in the interests of the National Party, has been appointed to a command in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He will enter Treptham Camp this week. LieutenantColonel Irving enlisted as a private in the Great War, serving with the Otago Regiment. He attained the rank of captain. He was severely wounded at Hebuterne in May, 1918. Serving in the Territorial Force, he was promoted to the rank of major in xMay, 1925,
