CHINESE RESISTANCE TO CONTINUE

Tlie Chungking correspondent of the British United Press states that the Kuomintang’s sixth plenary session elected Marshal Chiang Kai-Shek Premier in succession to Mr H. H. Kung, who was elected Vice-President of the Executive and who retains the portfolio of Minister of Finance. A manifesto states that the session’s most important decisions were. Firstly to convene a National People’s Assembly within a year; secondly to expedite the reconstruction of municipal governments; and thirdly to continue the resistance to Japan. The manifesto expresses gratitude for foreign Powers’ assistance and urges a world organisation of collective security after the war. Politicians say that Marshall Chiang Kai-Shek’s assumption of the Premiership was designed to enable effective coordination.
It is understood that Dr T. V. Soong will remain at Chungking, henceforth devoting his attenion exclusively to monetary affairs. Mr Yeh-Chu-Chang has been appointed Secretary of the Kuomintang, and General Wutehchen. ex-Mayor of Shanghai, Chief of Foreign Affairs.
