WORKERS IN SHOPS

QUESTION TO MINISTER ABOUT HOURS By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, May 31. “When ye are assured that it is practicable, it will not be long before legislation reducing hours comes down,” said the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, answering a question at a Christchurch South byelection meeting to-night, Mr Webb was asked whether he favoured the extension of the 40 hour week to workers employed in shops. He suggested in his reply that if it became necessary he would go as far as asking the workers to work longer hours to maintain the production level in vital industries.
