At least two ships southward bound from Lyttelton were delnye ’ to-day oy a heavy southerly gale which was encountered off the coast. They were the Union Steam Ship Company’s In-ter-colonial freighter Waitaki. due to-day to complete loading for Sydney and Melbourne, and the new motor tanker Belinda, bringing motor spirit from Bahrein Island. The Waitaki arrived 1- te to-night and wid sail tomorrow for Australia, but the Belinda did not reach the Heads until it was too late to bring h .• ,t the channel. She will now berth ’ -mor ow morning to complete discharge.
