PLEASANT POINT
GALA ASSOCIATION Although the financial result of the 1938 gala was not so great as in former years a very satisfactory profit was shown when the committee met on Wednesday evening. Those present were Mrs Taylor (in the chair), Mrs Muller, Mrs Bowman, Miss Macßean, Messrs R. B. Turnbull, E. Frew, W. J. Crawford (treasurer), and the secretary (Mr A. J. Oborn). The treasurer presented a balancesheet showing a profit on last year’s gala of £2l/19/6, which, with £l2/1/8 profit from the previous year made a total of £34/1/2. This sum will considerably augment the amount that will have to be raised for the swimming baths which are contemplated by a separate committee set up for the purpose of erecting this very necessary amenity in Pleasant Point. A donation of £l/1/- was made to the Temuka Pipe Band, members expressing their appreciation of the band’s assistance at the yearly gala. The secretary was granted an honorarium of £l/1/-.
Members expressed concern at the lack of support and enthusiasm given to the committee each year, and with a view to gaining this support the annual meeting is being held much earlier this year, the last week in October, and members were asked to make every endeavoui- to secure more helpers, for the purpose of presenting to the public a much more entertianing gala- than has been possible in the past.
