FLOCK HOUSE

GOOD OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOYS THOROUGH TRAINING FOR FARM WORK Many young lads have a natural desire to become farmers and a splendid opportunity is offered them through Flock House to gain the training required to fit them for a place on a farm. Flock House is under the control of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture and accommodation is available'for approximately 50 boys. No charge is made for the training given at this fine institution and a small sum of money is actually given to the trainees for pocket money.

The property is a large one and consists of over 8000 acres carrying 9000 sheep, 150 milking cows and 1000 head of Polled Angus cattle. The boys ranging from the ages of 14i years to 18 years are taught all the essentials of farm work and many of them become proficient at fencing, harnessing, and taking care of horses, riding, milking and using milking machines, drafting, dipping and shearing sheep, vegetable and flower gardening, all manner of farm cultivation, the conservation of fodder and the growing of crops. Besides this they are taught to mend clothes, repair boots and also to look after themselves.

With young and growing lads health is an important factor and besides being under the care of a capable matron, who is a trained nurse, the boys are kept healthy and happy with wellregulated work and good wholesome food. There is no doubt that Flock House offers splendid opportunities to boys who have just left school, and providing the boy is of good moral character and is healthy, entry to the institution is easy. Flock House offers free training and those interested should apply for full particulars to the Director of the Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, Wellington.
