FITNESS CAMPAIGN
Function At Ashbury Park Athletic Club Events The South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club in conjunction with other sports organisations will participate in the physical fitness display to be held at Ashbury Park this afternoon in connection with the Physical Fitness campaign. The club members will compete in tire half mile club handicap race, the combined women’s and men’s sprint relay race, and the Social Security Trotting Stakes. Exhibition of javelin throwing will be given by Miss F. Hart and Miss R. Dale, Mr R. Mehrtens and Mr H. Cloake. An exhibition of women’s hurdling will be given by the Canterbury and New Zealand women’s champion hurdler, Miss S. Oliphant.
Handicaps for the half-mile event are: L. G. Wood (Christchurch), scr, A. T. Anderson scr, H. Shea 15yds, D. Squire 25yds, G. McPherson 25yds, J. Donaldson 30yds, W. Young 35yds, I. Gillon 35yds, H. Allchurch 35yds, F. O’Gorman 40yds, V. McKay 45yds, F. Walker 45yds, N. Rees 55yds, M. Drake. 55yds, V. Raynor 60yds, W. Duncan 60yds. Teams for Dual Relay will be: S. Oliphant and C. Wood, H. Allchurch and F. J. O’Gorman, Misses D. Strachan and M. Anderson, Messrs J. Strachan and G. McPherson, Misses L. Brooks and G. Brosnahan. Messrs L. Andrews and J. Glover, Misses M. Pullen and E. White, Messrs R. Rodgers and V. Raynor. Drivers and horses for the “Social Security” Stakes will be: Miss L. Brooks and M. N. Rees; Miss F. Hart and Mr J. Glover; Miss R. Dale and Mr M. Drake; Miss G. Dale and Mr H. Allchurch.
