WOMEN’S DIVISION

SOUTHBURN BRANCH The first meeting of the year of the Southburn branch of the Women's Division was held in the school when Mrs Chamberlain presided over a good attendance and extended best wishes for the coming year to members. Motions of sympathy were passed to Mrs Murray who had recently lost her mother: also Mr and Mrs Evans who are recovering from an accident. The single members of the branch under the direction of Miss Chamberlain provided a very Interesting hour each member contributing an item. On the motion of Mrs Armstrong a vote of thanks was passed to the entertainers. The annual picnic postponed from December’ 3 was held during the month on Caroline Bay, when in spite of the wet day a good number was present. Competitions resulted as follows: Flower, senior, Mrs A. Ward 1, Mrs Robt. Parry 2, Mrs Chamberlain 3; junior, Miss Winnie Bell 1, Miss Alma Stowell 2, Miss Myra Evans 3; four stalks rhubarb, senior, Mrs Caswell 1, Mrs Rupert Parry 2, Mrs Armstrong 3; junior, Miss Audrey Gibson 1, Miss M. Ward 2; slice of Christmas cake, seniors, Mrs Caswell 1, Mrs Armstrong 2, Mrs A. Ward 3; junior, Miss Alma Stowell 1, Miss M. Ward 2, Miss Audrey Gibson 3; something new from something old, senior, Mrs Armstrong 1, Mrs Chamberlain 2, Mrs Caswell 3; junior, Miss Alma Stowell 1, Miss A. Gibson 2, Miss M. Ward 3. SEADOWN COMBINED PICNIC The combined picnic of the Seadown School and Women’s Institute was held in the Temuka Domain in ideal weather. With a very varied programme of sports events, tennis and swimming, all present enjoyed a very pleasant day’s outing. Ice creams and refreshments were provided for all. Sports events resulted as follows: Tiny tots, first heat, Fraser Ross 1, Janet King 2, Michael O’Connor 3. Second heat, Isabella Kyle 1, Fraser Ross 3.
