Positions on Ladder Matches Played Several ladder matches have been completed by members of the Geraldine Tennis Club and in the men’s section P. Callanan, who played his way to top position last season, still holds first place on the ladder. Removals from the district have brought about a change in the women’s section, several new names being added to the ladder. Miss D. M. Galloway ranks first in this section with Miss E. L. J. g)avies second player. Matches played this season are as follow: Men’s Section—L. Shannan beat C. Stringer 9-6; D. Davis beat J. D. Wyl\’e-Browne 9-7; P. Finch lost to C. Stringer 9-6. Women’s section —Miss M. McShane beat I. Allan 7-1; Miss J. Hislop beat Miss W. Bird 7-3. The ladder placings are:— Men—P. Callanan, L. Sharman, C. Stringer, A. Steward, P. Finch, D. Davis, J. D. Wylde-Browne, R. Brenton, H. Lapthorn, C. Small. Women —Miss D. M. Galloway, Miss E. L. J. Davies, Miss B. Dean, Miss Jill Lapthorne, Miss J. Hislop, Miss W. Pird, Miss P. Harper, Miss M. McShane, Miss I. Allan, Miss M. Wood. PRIMARY SCHOOL CONVERSION OF ROOMS A start was made this week to convert the infant room of the Geraldine primary school into a teacher’s room and store room. It was not intended to start this work until after the completion of the manual training centre, which is at present under construction at the secondary department at Raukapuka, but a shortage of timber on this work is responsible for the start being made at the primary school.
