RETAIL PHARMACIES
COMMISSION’S FAVOURABLE FINDING United Press Association—By Electric Telegra oh —Copyright (Received November 9, 12.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 8. Mr Justice Brown, president of the Industrial Commission of New South Wales, who inquired into the operations of Ob'-Il retail pharmacies, furnished his report to the Government and completely justifies their activities. He found that the main local companies, including Washington Soul and Pattinsons and Hallams, all of whom have several branch pharmacies in city suburbs and country centres, as well as Boot’s Pure Drug Company, Limited, conducted their businesses along efficient lines and gave excellent public service. He was satisfied that Boot’s was essentially British and not an American controlled company with a very high reputation for probity and efficiency, as well as an exemplary employer. Mr Justice Brown saw no valid reason for the suggestion that these companies prejudiced the ordinary chemist and thus should be prohibited from competing, arid he opined that it would be a foolish political policy to attempt to regulate the operations of chain pharmacies. The chemist must meet business competition just the same as any other businesses.
