Mauritius, an outpost of the Empire, is still unaffected by the turbulence of world affairs. The War Office during the week-end communicated with all stations instructing them to report immediately on the expenditure incurred as a result of the crisis, and how such expenses were incurred. Mauritius replied within a few hours: “Our expenses 232 pence; cost of replying to your telegram.”
