The independent Cable Service secured by the United Press Association of New Zealand begins with the following message: British shipowners, trading in Spain, have issued a statement that the rebels are offering large sums in British currency to induce British captains to commit barratry. “Big Defence Secret Out” “Britain has the world's most powerful anti-aircraft gun,” says the report of a Select Committee en Estimates, which reveals the existence of a 4.5 inch anti-aircraft gun. "Military circles are surprised to find the gun mentioned as they regarded it as an official secret. General Goering’s newspaper “National Zeitung” recently stated that Germany has a 3.461 n anti-aircraft gun, with a ceiling of 26,000 feet, and capable of firing twenty shots a minute, a weapon to which foreigners paid special attention.” Britain’s gun is now known to be of a revolutionary design with a performance far surpassing the recent 3.7 inch gun, which has 30,000 feet celling, and caable of firing 12 shots a minute. Air War In Spain Seventy were killed and 200 wounded in nine rebel air raids on the coastal towns yesterday. A bomb dropped on a passenger train outside the hospital town of Alcira killed 27 and wounded 80. Germane! High Command General Keitel, chief of the Supreme Command has been promoted Colonel General, rank next to Field Marshal. Spies in Switzerland In a district which has been formed at Basle, many Swiss and Germans have been arrested recently. They are accused of espionage for Germany. One of the most prominent of those arrested is Eugen Wild!, well-known lawyer.
