EXPORT EMBARGO EFFECTS The principal of Roseworthy College and leader of the Australian delegation which recently toured the Union of South Africa, Dr. A. R. Callaghan, expressed the opinion, on his return to the Commonwealth, that the effects of the Australian export embargo on Merino sheep have been to encourage systematic in-breeding with satisfactory and helpful results. "The majority of stud-breeders in South Africa have now concentrated their blood lines,” he said. "Some of these are of a standard of excellence that would surprise many Australian breeders.”
