PLIGHT OF REFUGEES
APPEAL BY ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY British Official Wireless (Received October 28, 6.30 pan.) RUGBY, October 27. Speaking on the refugee problem, the Archbishop of Canterbury said he was staggered by its immensity and difficulties. Each problem must be tackled by itself, though it might be only a fraction of what would have to be done in the aggregate. The British nation, together with other European countries, could not escape some of the responsibility for the circumstances, which had driven the Abyssinians from their homes. They were now guests of the British Empire, and among them were 1500 children, who were chiefly tn Kenya. The local authorities were doing all they could, but more voluntary effort was needed in the form of medical assistance, clothing and education. RESPONSE IN ENGLAND SUCCESS OF LORD MAYOR S APPEAL British Official Wireless (Received October 28, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, October 27. The Czech relief fund exceeds £232,000.
