Severn (Upper Hutt). Mr W. T. Ritchie, chairman of the Timaru Harbour Board, Intends leaving on April 22 on a six months’ trip to England, and at yesterday’s meeting of the Board Mr Ritchie was granted leave of absence for the April meeting, as this is the only one the present Board has jurisdiction over. Mr Ritchie expressed thanks to members of the Board for the wonderful support they had accorded him during the period he had been chairman, and especially in helping him to bring harbour improvement matters to the state they were in to-day. He also expressed his thanks to the staff and to the newspapers. Mr Ritchie also mentioned that while in England, if the Board desired it, he would make various inquiries regarding plant and such like which may be of great help when the harbour improvement work was put in hand. It might be that he would not be back on the Board after the next election, although he intended leaving his nomination in the hands of the authorities before he left, but even if he were not returned, he might be able to secure information which would be of value to the Board.
